Working as a temp is an ideal way to introduce yourself and your skills to an employer. If you do a great job, have the ability to become a permanent employee and have the working rights/visa required for the job, then you may be considered for other opportunities by your host employer.

Probably not. However, we recommend you speak to an authorised migration agent about your specific case and situation.

Your employment contract should outline a period of notice. On-hired casual staff can have a notice period from 1 hour to 1 month; depending on your role type. If you are unsure, you can speak to your Dash Group consultant about this.

Each week, you need to make sure that your manual timesheet is completed, authorised/signed by your supervisor and submitted to timesheets@dashgroup.net.au for processing by Monday 10.am.

As you know, we pay you and charge our clients for all the hours you work. If you have not submitted your timesheet in on time, or your timesheet is incomplete, you jeopardise our ability to pay you in a timely fashion.

Therefore, it is critical that you ask your host employer (client) to sign your manual timesheet every day (if applicable). This will be of benefit to you in the event that you leave the job site and are not required back for work on the following day.

Each week, you need to make sure that your online timesheet is submitted for authorising and processing by Monday 12:00 pm. Online timesheets are an option provided you have access to a smart phone, tablet or PC as they speed up the process and reduce paperwork for you. If you are interested in using online timesheets please speak to your Dash Group consultant.

Remember, no approved or signed timesheet, host client name and site address = NO PAY!

If your timesheet is received late – it cannot be paid on time.

Provided you have submitted a completed and signed/approved timesheet to us by Monday 10am (AEST), your pay will be transferred to your nominated bank account on Wednesday evening and the funds will be available in your account Thursday morning.

Once we have released your pay from our bank account, we have no control over the time taken to reach your bank account, so please do not call us unless you have not received your pay by Thursday morning.

Your pay slip will be issued to you, via email, by Wednesday evening.

Your pay rate depends on the types of jobs you can do and the role expected of you by the host employer (client). If you are a highly-skilled professional with nine years’ experience, with your own equipment and transport, you’ll earn more than you would if you are a general labourer with one years’ experience. Your experience, how long you’ve been working for Dash Group, where your job is located, feedback from our client and your overall performance can all influence your rate of pay.

This depends on the job and the award you are employed under. Some host employers (clients) will offer meal or onsite allowances. Some staff will receive a daily fares and travel allowance.

The short answer is Yes. This is your individual number used in your tax records. It’s important and you need one. Commencement of your employment with Dash Group requires you to complete a Tax File Number Declaration form in the FlareHR onboarding process. If you don’t know how to complete your Tax File Declaration, please visit the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) website for more information: https://www.ato.gov.au/

All Australian employers are legally obligated to make superannuation contributions to the wages of their employees to contribute towards your retirement. Presently the rate of superannuation contributions is 11% of your salary. This is paid by Dash Group into your nominated superannuation fund. You can choose any fund you want. The industry fund for building and construction is CBUS and you can join them by visiting their website. When you start working with Dash Group, you will be asked to provide your superannuation fund details via FlareHR. As at July 1, 2024 the percentage paid towards your superannuation will increase to 11.5% of your salary, and again to 12% from 1st July 2025.

Yes, sometimes Dash Group is able to offer overtime work. Like so many things, this will depend on your host employer (the client). Some clients will provide you with an opportunity for overtime hours and you will be paid penalty rates accordingly. As you might already know, overtime gets offered to our best workers. So, if this is something you want, it’s up to you to perform well with Dash Group show the client that you’re worthy of overtime penalty rate.

There’s an old saying that failing to prepare, is preparing to fail. We see it all the time; people missing out on jobs because they haven’t thoroughly prepared for the interview. The employer is trying to evaluate whether you are suited to the business, position and culture. If you were an employer and you had two candidates to choose from, would you choose the one who was prepared or the one who wasn’t?

Follow these tips to be the candidate who is always prepared.

  • Research the company and people you will be meeting. Check out their social media presence, current and new projects, company website and, of course, Google them!
  • Practice the most common interview questions. How can you respond in a way that is honest, whilst showing off your strengths and skills? Be aware of your potential weaknesses as a candidate and have explanations for these. Essentially, you need to demonstrate to the interviewer that you’re the best person for the job.
  • Dress for success! Ensure that what you wear is industry appropriate. If you are unsure, ring someone you trust. If in doubt, it is better to be overdressed. This shows respect and attention to detail. Being underdressed shows sloppy presentation skills and a poor attitude.
  • Control your nerves. Remember to breathe and remember that an interviewer is waiting to find the right person for the job. They want you to be excellent so they can hire you and get to work.
  • Ask smart questions. It’s OK to write them down and take them to the interview.

The way you are dressed is the first statement about yourself you make to someone. So, what are you trying to say?

You only have one opportunity to make a great first impression and dressing appropriately is an expression of respect for the situation. It helps convince the interviewer you are serious about wanting the position. Employers will want evidence that you can represent their organisation in a professional manner.

With that in mind, dress for success and ensure what you wear is industry appropriate. If in doubt, ask your Dash Group consultant about the dress code and culture of a potential employer.

Do your research on the company and people you’ll be meeting. Check out their social media presence, current and new projects/products, company website and, of course, Google them.

You should know as much as possible about them, so you can ask informed questions and show you’ve done your research. It’s definitely OK to write questions down and take them to the interview.

Can you tell me about someone in your business who has done the job I am interviewing for in the past – and where their career is now within your business?
